A smart solution:
Elaborate scaffolding projects, like the one at the Cologne Opera House in the heart of the city, are just part of day-to-day business for the scaffolding pros at Odendahl + Feldbusch GmbH. For this project, the challenge was in creating a completely free-standing solution. The flush roof of the Opera House is not strong enough to support scaffolding.
“As a result, this project was too tricky for most of our competitors, so we were awarded the contract as an expert firm and specialist,” reports graduate architect and CEO Uwe Odendahl. More than once, the MJ Basic Coupling system has proven to be the best solution in such challenging situations.
In order to stay with a traditional façade scaffolding for their work on the Cologne Opera House, Odendahl + Feldbusch GmbH decided to use the MJ Basic Coupling system.
Its advantages include a shorter assembly time as well as reduced materials usage. This guarantees a cost-effective solution – assembly times can be up to 75% shorter.
Three MJ Basic Coupling systems were anchored in the Opera House’s concrete façade, one on top of the other, on each of the three lower scaffolding levels. This eliminated the need for an elaborate and expensive braced-girder structure.
“This way, we save not only time, but also significant bureaucratic effort and costs, because the MJ Basic Coupling system has already been structurally certified. Without this system, we would have needed to create more elaborate individual statics for scaffolding with braced girders,” continued Odendahl.
Overall, 4-5 employees of Odendahl +Feldbusch GmbH installed 2,300 m² of scaffolding material over about a week of assembly time for the scaffolding on the Cologne Opera House.
